About Bear Rank (BR)

Our transparent, quality-first website ranking algorithm

What is Bear Rank?

Bear Rank (BR) is Directory Bear's proprietary website quality score, ranging from 0 to 100. It provides a single, easy-to-understand number that reflects a website's overall quality, popularity, authority, and trustworthiness.

Unlike Domain Rating (DR) systems that focus primarily on backlinks, Bear Rank takes a holistic approach — combining multiple quality signals to give users a more accurate picture of a website's value.

How is BR Calculated?

Bear Rank combines four key signals. Hover over each signal to see how it contributes to the overall score.

BR Tiers

BR 95

Grizzly (90–100)

The apex of the web. These sites dominate their space with massive authority, rock-solid security, and millions of loyal visitors. Only about 1% of all indexed sites earn Grizzly status.

BR 82

Kodiak (75–89)

Powerful, respected, and well-established. Kodiak sites are trusted by millions and represent the top ~10% of the web.

BR 62

Polar (50–74)

Solid and steady. Good quality, decent traffic, and reliable — a healthy middle ground that represents quality web properties.

BR 30

Cub (0–49)

Just getting started! Newer or smaller websites that are still growing. Every great site starts as a Cub.

BR for New Sites

When a new website is submitted to Directory Bear, we use available public data to calculate an initial BR score. New sites start with a "provisional" badge that becomes permanent after 30 days of data collection. We pull initial authority signals from free APIs and public datasets to ensure even brand-new sites get a fair starting score.
